Corporate and Community Events Through the Years: A Los Angeles DJ's Look Back

Corporate events are about connection: employees getting to know one another, clients feeling valued and brands showing their personality. I'm DJ Sam House, and here are some of the corporate and community events that stand out from my years in Los Angeles.

Spin to Win prize wheel at a corporate holiday party at the Long Beach Petroleum Club

Holiday parties

PCI, Hilton Costa Mesa (December 2009). The people at PCI really knew how to party. It was a disco theme, and everyone dressed to impress. With Dennis Waller, party emcee extraordinaire, we kept the party rocking all night long, with plenty of flashing lights, lasers and a disco ball.

Signal Hill Petroleum, Long Beach Petroleum Club (December 2009). A big success, with lots of winners on the Spin to Win wheel. The company even sent two lucky employees to New York. I can't wait until next year!

Maryvale Orphanage Guild, Riviera Country Club (December 2008). This was House Entertainment's fifth year celebrating the holiday season with the wonderful Maryvale girls. Santa Claus showered them with gifts, and MC Dennis and I rocked the show. Read about the 2009 party.

Conferences and company parties

Arthrocare, Hyatt Huntington Beach (February 2009). A wild corporate event with a surprise appearance by dancer Robert Muraine, whom I've seen on "So You Think You Can Dance" and "Superstars of Dance." A few days later I wrapped up their three-day conference with premium lighting, creating their very own nightclub: dancing, a dance-off and more dancing.

Baden-Wuerttemberg International, Figueroa Hotel (May 2009). I love the Figueroa Hotel. This conference brought together scholars from around the world, and it's not every day you meet interesting people from everywhere.

Boyle Heights Home Owners and Residents Association, Arte Calidad Cultural Institute (October 2008). A fun community night with beautiful artwork, a delicious meal and a little history of Los Angeles.

Luxury brand launches in Beverly Hills

Rolls-Royce Ghost unveiling (August 2009). Great cars, great food (catering by Katana) and great music.

Bentley Beverly Hills (August 2009). Another awesome event with my friends at the dealership.

Bang & Olufsen at Kopeikin Gallery (April 2010). B&O unveiled a new TV that belongs in an art gallery, and their partners at Aston Martin showed off a car out front. A beautiful TV, a beautiful car and beautiful music.

Community carnivals

Christian Carnival (September 2007). MC Egypt Thompson and I got the crowd moving early in the day, and when it got dark the intelligent lighting came on and we got the whole carnival bumping.

What I've learned

  • Match the theme. A disco holiday party works best when everyone dresses up.
  • Add a surprise. A guest dancer or a spin-to-win wheel creates memories.
  • Light the room. Lighting can transform a banquet hall into a nightclub.
