A Naval Aviator and a preschool teacher: it sounds like a fairytale, but it's true! Chris and Laurie celebrated their wedding with friends and family at the Ebell Club in Long Beach on August 16, 2009, and this one holds a special place in my story. I'm DJ Sam House, and this was my 100th blog entry.
A day that flew by
The saying goes that time flies when you're having fun, and that's exactly how this wedding felt. The ceremony was beautiful, the reception was full of smiles, and before we knew it the night was over. Chris and Laurie were surrounded by people who love them, and that made all the difference.
The right team makes the day
I like to give credit where it's due. Wedding coordinator Mindy Roderick kept everything running smoothly, and Reverend John E. Southwick conducted a wonderful ceremony. I've worked with both of them on several weddings over the years, and I can say they are the best in the business. When your coordinator and officiant know what they're doing, your DJ can focus on the music and the room, and you get to enjoy your day.
Planning tip: build a team that talks to each other
Ask your venue, planner, officiant and DJ to share one timeline. A shared schedule means the ceremony music is cued, the introductions land, and dinner, toasts and dancing flow without anyone checking their watch. Experienced vendors who have worked together before make that even easier.
Congratulations again, Chris and Laurie. Thank you for letting me be a small part of your big day.
If you're planning a wedding and would love a DJ and MC who treats your day like it's the only one, get in touch and tell me about your plans. You can also see how I approach wedding entertainment.
