Jermeana and Josh celebrated their wedding at Elings Park in Santa Barbara on September 28, 2009, and I was lucky enough to be there as their DJ. I'm DJ Sam House, and what a day it was. The guest list included an exclusive group of the who's who in Jermeana and Josh's lives, and you could feel how much everyone cared about them.
From hazy to bright
The morning started off a little hazy, but soon the clouds cleared and we had a bright, beautiful afternoon in Santa Barbara. That's the beauty of an outdoor wedding on the Central Coast: the scenery makes every photo better. Jermeana and Josh seemed like extremely cool people, and I really enjoyed celebrating with them.
A relaxed, park-style celebration
A park setting like Elings Park invites a relaxed, personal celebration. Guests mingle, take in the views and settle in. Because the setup is different from a ballroom, I plan a bit differently too, paying extra attention to power, sound and the weather so the music always sounds its best.
Planning tip: outdoor celebrations in Santa Barbara
If you're planning a wedding outdoors in Santa Barbara or anywhere on the coast, a few ideas:
- Expect a marine layer. Morning clouds often clear, so schedule your photos and ceremony with that in mind.
- Think about wind. Ask your DJ and decorator how they secure signs, speakers and tables.
- Have a plan B. Even if the forecast is perfect, a backup plan makes everyone feel at ease.
