It was an absolutely beautiful day. On October 3, 2009 I had the pleasure of working Melissa and Scott's wedding at the Adamson House in Malibu, and it was filled with breathtaking ocean views, fun and dancing. I'm DJ Sam House, and I still think about the view from that night.
A full moon over the Pacific
After the sun went down, we were all awestruck by the full moon and its reflection off the ocean. It looked like something right out of a Hollywood movie. Moments like that can't be planned, but a good timeline leaves room for them. When a spectacular sky or sunset shows up, I'm happy to let the music breathe so guests can take it in.
Line dancing, with napkins
After dinner, we got everybody out onto the dance floor for a little Louisiana-style line dancing, complete with napkins. It was a blast. Waving a napkin overhead is a simple trick, but it gets guests of every age and dancing ability involved right away. If you want a unique reception moment, ask your DJ about a signature dance or a playful tradition from your own family's culture.
Planning tip: oceanfront and historic venues
The Adamson House is a historic Malibu landmark by the beach, and venues like this often come with special guidelines. Before your wedding, check:
- Sound and timing: what the venue allows for amplified music and when it needs to wind down.
- Load-in: where and when your DJ can bring in and set up equipment.
- Weather: how the coast breeze or evening chill might affect your guests.
Getting those details settled early lets everyone focus on the celebration.
Congratulations again, Melissa and Scott. Thank you for inviting me to share your day.
