It was a spectacular event. I'm DJ Sam House, and on October 23, 2008 I traveled south to the Hotel del Coronado near San Diego to provide music for a corporate event for Hogan and Hartson. The party spilled over into every part of this classy hotel, and it was a joy to be there.
Beachside dinner, then karaoke
We got to enjoy musical performers and dinner on the beach, which is about as California as it gets. Afterward, we moved inside for cocktails and karaoke, and guests moved from one fun space to another through the night. Spreading a party across different rooms keeps the evening interesting and lets guests choose how they want to celebrate.
The chill room
I headed up the chill room, where I played super cool tiki lounge music for the rest of the night. Nice! A quieter room gives guests a place to catch their breath, talk and unwind between the louder activities, and tiki lounge music turned out to be a perfect fit.
Planning tip: multi-room corporate events
If your company event will use several rooms or outdoor areas, consider the following:
- Give each space a purpose. A dance room, a lounge and a dinner area each need a different feel and volume.
- Coordinate your entertainment. Bands, karaoke and DJs should share a timeline so the evening transitions smoothly.
- Think about travel. For destination or resort events, ask about gear delivery and setup times well in advance.
Thank you to the Hogan and Hartson team for a great night.
