What a fun wedding! I'm DJ Sam House, and on October 12, 2008 I had the honor of celebrating Sara and Estelle's wedding at The Sky Room in Long Beach. If you've never been to The Sky Room, it features lavish art deco grace and amazing views of Long Beach harbor, a perfect backdrop for a wedding.
A dance floor that stayed full
Sara, Estelle and all of their friends and family showed that they know how to have a good time. The dance floor was full all night long. There was even a spontaneous conga line, which is one of my favorite things to see at a reception, because it means guests have forgotten about being shy and are simply enjoying each other.
Friends and family first
Sara and Estelle's wedding was a perfect reminder that a celebration is all about the people in the room. It was my honor and privilege to be a part of their special day.
Planning tip: vintage and art deco ballrooms
A venue with this much character, such as an art deco space with a view, often looks stunning with simple, well-placed lighting. If you're planning a wedding in a historic Long Beach location, ask your DJ about:
- Uplighting and ambient color that complements the architecture instead of covering it up.
- Where to place the DJ setup so it stays out of photos but still lets me see the room.
- Dance floor size, so the room feels full and energetic rather than spread out.
Sometimes small adjustments make a big difference in how a space feels.
Congratulations again, Sara and Estelle!
