Los Angeles weddings come in every style imaginable: temples, historic hotels, garden estates, even a private home in the hills. I'm DJ Sam House, and here are some of my favorite celebrations from 2008 and 2009 around Los Angeles, Pasadena, Glendale and Santa Monica.
Los Angeles and the Hollywood Hills
Ronnie and Melissa, Leo Baeck Temple (September 2008). Since the couple was so sweet, what better than a dessert reception? We had made-to-order crepes, a chocolate fountain, a cake and an assortment of other sweets.
Brian and David, Hollywood Hills (December 2008). It's a beautiful thing when two people fall in love. They celebrated with friends and family at a private home in the Hollywood Hills. After taking in views of the city, we all sat down to dinner, then danced. A great time was had by all.
Teddy and Alexia, Figueroa Hotel (June 2009). The Figueroa Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles has its own unique charm. The highlight of the evening was the best man's speech, delivered live via Skype. Amazing!
Pasadena
Brandon and Maryann, Happy Trails Catering (October 2009). The minister, Bob Jabro, led a wonderful ceremony that was followed by great food and dancing. Everyone was friendly, and I really enjoyed celebrating with them.
Greg and Michelle, Craven's Estate (October 2009). Despite the estate's large floor plan, we kept the party moving. We even got in a family favorite, the Chicken Dance.
Danny and Karen, The Rococo Room at Cafe Santorini (November 2009). An afternoon wedding with Damien Smith Photography there to capture the details. Cool people, fun party.
Chris and Kathy, Pasadena Museum of California Art (May 2009). Everybody filled the dance floor and got down. Chris and Kathy are one of the nicest couples I've ever entertained, and they had great dance moves.
Glendale, Santa Monica and beyond
Dragana and Jerry, Brandview Collection in Glendale (November 2008). Dragana's family came from Yugoslavia, so we played traditional kolos for everyone to dance to. It's a great reminder that the right music for your family may not be on a top-40 list.
David and Michelle, The Victorian in Santa Monica (September 2009). One of my favorite Santa Monica venues, a Victorian-style home near my favorite farmers market. The wedding was flawless from start to finish.
Nicole and Michael, Universal Sheraton (October 2009). A mariachi band started us off, then I kept it going with salsa, merengue, cumbia, banda and more. The dance floor was full the entire night.
Elaine and Eric, Hilton at Universal City (October 2009). A super cool couple, and their family and friends really knew how to get down.
Heather and Jeff, Altadena Town and Country Club (October 2009). "Fantastic" was the comment I got at the end of the reception, and I couldn't agree more.
Pete and Lindsay, Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades (August 2009). An awesome wedding filled with laughter and smiles, just the way I like it.
What these weddings have in common
- Variety is the point. From a temple dessert reception to a hillside home, each celebration got its own plan.
- Technology can help. A Skype toast let a faraway best man join the party.
- Your culture belongs on the dance floor. Kolos, mariachi and the Chicken Dance all made their way in.
