This was my sixth year back at the Riviera Country Club celebrating Christmas with the girls of Maryvale. I'm DJ Sam House, and being part of their Christmas has become very near and dear to my heart. On December 5, 2009 I got to do it again, and I look forward to this party every year.
Dancing, gifts and Santa
Our MC was there to get the girls dancing and having fun, and they did. Santa Claus was also there to give all the girls their Christmas gifts. It was awesome, as usual. Merry Christmas, Maryvale!
Why this party matters
Some events are about business, and some are about community. Maryvale's Christmas party is one of the ones that reminds me why I love what I do. When a room full of girls is dancing, laughing and opening gifts, the music becomes part of something bigger than the party.
Planning tip: holiday parties
Whether you're hosting a charity party, a family gathering or an office holiday event, here are a few ideas:
Plan the moments. Santa's arrival, gift giving and group dances all work best when the DJ and emcee know the timeline in advance.
Include everyone. Mix classic holiday favorites with current hits so every age group has something to sing along with.
Keep it fun. A good emcee can make kids and adults feel comfortable joining in.
Thank you to the Maryvale Orphanage Guild for inviting me back year after year.
