The consensus was clear: "This year's party was the best ever!" I'm DJ Sam House, and it was my pleasure to provide the music for St. Francis Xavier's annual auction dinner on Valentine's Day weekend in 2009. Happy Valentine's Day!
A cowboy, a disco ball and a good cause
With the help of Sam Neely, "The Cowboy Auctioneer," we had an awesome night raising money for the school. The theme of the event was "Saturday Night Fever," and plenty of guests dressed for the occasion. We had our very own Village People, an Elvis, and The Hustle, instructed by Bret Anthony. What an amazing night!
Why fundraisers are special
School auctions are some of my favorite events to be part of. The whole community comes together, and the focus is on the kids. A fun theme like Saturday Night Fever gives everyone permission to be playful, and a lively dance floor encourages guests to stay longer and have a great time together. It was my pleasure to be part of such a fun party for such a great cause.
Planning tip: music for a fundraiser or auction
If you're planning a school or nonprofit event, consider:
- Pick a theme that invites participation. Costumes break the ice, and a decade-themed playlist gives everyone something to sing along with.
- Work with your auctioneer and emcee. Share the program in advance so the music supports bidding, announcements and dancing.
- Plan the flow. Dinner, auction and dancing can overlap. A DJ can adjust the volume and energy through the evening so people stay engaged.
Thank you to everyone at St. Francis Xavier for such a warm welcome.
